Spring Morning in Vermont
By John Grey
The red-faced sunrise,
habitually slow,
dabs its colors with an artist's brush,
and the scent of ripened life.
The breeze yawns
itself into movement,
laps against the treetops
as stream water does its shore.
Such a surprising legerdemain
in nothing more than brightness,
turns all glass to golden candy
and the ponds into sheets of sheen.
